The pawn lands where the horse watches
Horse and pawn are the classic endgame pair: the pawn is the battering ram, the horse is its bodyguard. Before every pawn step, ask which landing squares the horse already owns. Push the d4 pawn now — it lands on d5, a square the e3 horse protects, so it advances with a root. Black's f6 horse glares at d5, but capturing means giving a horse for a pawn, and the recapture follows at once. Escort first, advance second.
