◇ Just read — no move neededThe chariot pins, the pawn marches
Chariot and soldier are the classic siege pair: the chariot ties the defenders down, the pawn creeps onto squares nothing can answer. Here the red chariot on e4 pins the e8 advisor to the king along the open e-file — the advisor cannot move at all, or the file opens into check through to the palace. This is exactly the geometry the pin lesson taught, with the pawn as the second attacker: the defence must watch the chariot and the soldier at once, and it cannot.
